Tour De France
Ok this is the big one. The one I've been waiting for all year. 3 weeks of t.v. bliss in the form of the greatest bike race in the world and it starts this Saturday.
That is my opinion by the way, I'm sure there are lots of you out there that will much prefer the Giro D'italia or something like that. I think this year could be one of the great races. As anyone who has been following the pro tour this year will know, team Sky are starting to look pretty awesome. We have Mark Cavendish, the worlds fastest sprinter who has already clocked up a good few stage wins this year in various races, and now we have Bradley Wiggins on top form. He has had success this year by winning the Paris - Nice and the Criterium du Dauphine and couple that with his Olympic training and the team that's been built around him and you end up with a force to be reckoned with.
But there is also another aspect to the race that I enjoy very much. The T.V coverage allows everyone to see the fantastic scenery around France from the view point of a helicopter. It looks amazing. But there is something else too, more and more of the fans get good coverage. There is Didi the devil who shows up every year and I find myself looking out for him a bit like a game of where's Wally and now more and more people are in fancy dress running up the road after the cyclists.
I'm sure that most of these guys just want to get on t.v rather than are true fans of the sport but hey, it's quite entertaining. Lastly there are the people who seem to build the most amazing tributes to the bike in the form of giant bikes made from straw bales etc. All this ads up to a fabulous 3 weeks, not forgetting the racing of coarse.
If any of you have any great Tour de France stories to tell, please feel free to post them up on the forum. Once the tour starts I will keep you all informed on whats happening as it develops, so stay tuned.
